Andy Dickens, MSc, PhD

Andy joined OPRI in 2021, having previously been at the University of Birmingham since 2011 and the University of Exeter prior to that. He has over 20 years’ experience of academic research within public health and health service research, developing research interests in respiratory disease, global health, health outcomes for older people and complex interventions. Andy has most recently collaborated with respiratory clinicians in Brazil, China, Georgia and North Macedonia on NIHR-funded studies relating to the diagnosis and management of COPD. Prior to this, he led the Birmingham COPD Cohort Study in the West Midlands, UK.

Andy is skilled in epidemiology, research design, data analysis, quantitative research and statistics, and obtained his PhD in Medical Studies from University of Exeter in 2010.
