Striving for a faster diagnosis for patients with rare and difficult to diagnose disease

The Trial will involve recruitment of willing GP Practices to take part in this exciting programme designed to improve detection of difficult to diagnose and rare diseases.
Practices will enable screening of anonymised patient records (using computer software) to recognise patterns of symptoms and signs to help detect patients at risk of specific diseases.

Once patients are identified, their notes will be reviewed by appropriately qualified staff at the practice to check they are suitable.
Medical Scientists working at the practice will contact patients and organise specific testing to check for disease.
These new technologies of detection will help patients who have struggled to get a diagnosis to access the correct care and treatment they need.
The trial will look at whether these new methods for finding patients and getting them tested are effective.
